Do you like jazz? Do you like brunch? If you answered yes to either of those questions, then you are in luck.

The group known as the Black Coffee Jazz Combo will be playing this Sunday at Jackie O's from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Black Coffee Jazz Combo is made up of three members: John Horne on guitar, Tim Meyers on drums and Greg Bikowski on upright bass.

Although still within a few months of the band's conception, they have quite a few shows under their belt already.

"You always have a good crowd," said Bikowski, about playing in Athens.

What can an attendee at a Black Coffee Jazz Combo expect to hear?

"We kind of mix it up," said Bikowski. "Some blues, some things that perk people up once they hear it. We throw some Latin jazz in there. [It's] a variety of things."

Not only does the band play covers of classics, but they play original pieces as well.

"I always intend for [the song] to go someplace," said Bikowski. "Sometimes, it'll come to me. I'll hit on a certain line I like and try and develop a tune from that. I usually don't sit down and specifically say 'I'm gonna write a song today.' It happens quickly. It's something that happens from me playing around and experimenting on the instrument itself."

What's next for the group?

Aside from the Jackie O's brunch and other live performances, Bikowski hopes to expand the Black Coffee Jazz Combo into something of a collective.

"What I'd like to do is have some other musicians join us, even if it's just for two or three songs or something like that. [I'd like to] contact some musician friends that I have and incorporate more people into the group," said Bikowski.

"When I named the group, we came up with the name Black Coffee, but I specifically put in 'Jazz Combo' rather than 'Jazz Trio' because I always thought maybe we could expand or have other people join us," he said.

If this sounds like your cup of tea (or black coffee, rather), come and enjoy some food and music at an event that promises to be a nice, low-key way to start your Sunday.

The show is at Jackie O's on the public house side from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. Admission is free.
