Snat loves moms (especially drunk moms) almost as much as he loves rock music. But tonight, he doesn’t have to choose, because he can have both as ACRN hosts Mom’s Weekend, Dingus Kahn and the Spacemen Spiffs, Sure Plus and Magna Drag at the Smiling Skull. ACRN wants to keep it local, so the mommas can get a glimpse of what it’s like to be a music enthusiast in Athens.
Mom’s Weekend might not be the music to your mother’s fragile ears, but it wouldn't be a show without them given that it’s, well, Mom’s Weekend. The dynamic duo will provide a pop-punk sensation that will certainly appeal to us college kids, at the very least.
And who knows? Maybe our mothers will surprise us.
Dingus Kahn and the Spacemen Spiffs are formerly known as Octopus and Owl. While their name may have become more complicated (and goofier, for that matter), their melodies remain as grungy as ever.
Sure Plus, yet another Athens duo, are not limited by there only being two of them. Made up of Spencer Radcliff and Grant Engstrom of Difficult Dogs fame, Sure Plus defines itself as math rock and pop-punk--a fitting addition to the evening’s festivities.
Lastly is Magna Drag, who may just be a breath of fresh air given their recent introduction to the scene. Known as down-right garage rock, Magna Drag might just explode in our mother’s ears.
The show will start around 10 p.m. and costs $3. Did I mention that mothers are absolutely encouraged? 'Cause they are. So, bring her out and expand her horizons for a night that she'll never forget.
On the heels of his hot party playlist-must "Bugatti," Ace Hood makes his way to Athens for a Tuesday night show.
Athens will introduce Nuit Blanche on Saturday, an annual all-night arts festival.
Anyone interested in classic rock, the blues and a new twist on some old legends should take their mom to The Smiling Skull on Saturday.
If you don’t know where to take your mom this weekend, (and assuming she is the kind of mom who likes to rock out) The Union might be the place for you Friday night.
A diverse line-up of music and free cake means this birthday party is going to rule!
Join New Vega, Princess and Lean Away at Jackie O’s on Thursday night for a few drinks and light indie rock.
The first of the regional summer music festivals is here with a weekend long of music and arts fun, featuring artists from all over the nation.
Folk singer-guitarist Leah Jean will grace the brewery side of Jackie O’s with her soothing vocals to promote her debut album Some Of Me.
The combination of these two sounds from two very different upbringings will certainly create an interesting show.
These three rock acts might blow the roof off Casa on Saturday night.
