The quarter is winding down and it's time for Snat to award his best lobsters for their achievements this year. The end of the year ACRN Awards Ceremony and Cookout will be Saturday, May 31 at 4pm at Bryan Olinger's house. Be sure to come out for Biggest Flirt, Biggest Lush, Best On-Air Personality, Lobster of the Year, and many more! Good eats and good jams will be present.

$2 Prom

ACRN.com presents our annual dance party, $2 Prom! Put on your dancing shoes and dress up, dress down (just come dressed) to the Union this Thursday (5/22) for the dance event of the year. There will be music, there will be a picture spot, and there will be Snat the Rock Lobster. This year's theme is "GET WET!" so plan for that however you wish.

The dance starts at 10pm with music by DJ Good Clean Fun, The Wrightman, MF Doom, and DJ Pockit Rockit.

Relay for Life

ACRN is teaming up with the American Cancer Society for Relay for Life--a fundraiser for cancer research. This year's Relay for Life is May 16. Help fight cancer by donating to the ACRN Rock Lobsters Relay for Life Team! Follow this link: http://main.acsevents.org/

Lobsterfest Craft Bazaar Applications!

ACRN loves DIY, so we are very excited to have a craft fair this year during Lobsterfest!

The Lobsterfest Craft Bazaar will take place during the afternoon/evening of DAY 3 of Lobsterfest (you know, the outdoor festival day with ANDREW WK) on Saturday, June 7. If you're interested in getting your craft on and showing/selling your work during this event, head on over to www.acrn.com/lobsterfest and fill out an application.

Application deadline is: Friday, May 23, 2008.
All applicants will be notified of their acceptance status by: Tuesday, May 27, 2008.

The School of Telecommunications is now the School of Media Arts & Studies! To celebrate the new recording console in the studio, they're hosting Media Day: The Recording Industry this Friday, May 2nd and ACRN is co-sponsoring the event!

A night of music celebrating artists who have recorded in Athens with Media School students, alumni and faculty. Local favorites Kaslo & Russenorsk and newcomer Jeff Ellis from Huntington, WV, will be playing material off their latest releases, all “made in Athens.” The show will be recorded by audio students and possibly be broadcast live…!

The 10 day week of ACRN celebration is upon us! We have events happening all "week" long, so if you're a real Rock Lobster, you'll be there. This year's events are:

Friday April 11 @ 8:00pm: Via Audio w/ Grade School & Jake Householder at the Smiling Skull $3
Saturday April 12 @ 9:00pm: John Vanderslice w/ Joe Anderl & Nostra Nova at the Union $6
Sunday April 13 @ 3:00pm: Lobsters-Only Cookout at Bryan Olinger's house (32 Smith Street). It's a luau theme!
Sunday April 13 @ 9:00pm: "Don't Dance, Be Relax" DJs upstairs at the Union.
Monday April 14 @ 11:00-4:00pm: "Free sale" and grilled cheese at the Howard Hall Site (next to Voight Hall). We will be giving away free stuff to passersby. One man's trash is another man's treaure!
Monday April 14 @ 9:30pm: Rock 'N Roll Bingo at the Smiling Skull. There will be prizes!
Tuesday April 15 @ 11:00-4:00pm: Grilled cheese and community graffiti at Howard Hall Site (next to Voight Hall).
Tuesday April 15 @ 9:00pm: Outdoor screening of Superbad and Milo & Otis at the Scripps Ampitheater (also called the Wilhelm Ampitheater) Weather permitting.
Wednesday April 16 @ 11:00-4:00pm: Treats & Twister at the Howard Hall Site (next to Voight Hall). Come eat food and play giant Twister.
Wednesday April 16 @ 7:00pm: Station redecorating! Wear your best painting clothes and get ready to see red...in a good way.
Thursday April 17 @ 10:00pm: Dance Away Cancer! Relay for Life Benefit Dance at 19 South.
Friday April 18 ALL DAY! Blackout Fest bands will be stopping by the studio for interviews and in-studio performances.
Friday April 18 @ 10:00pm: ACRN Blowout at Casa de Brittface (73 Franklin Street). Lobsters only 10:00-11:00pm, then tell your friends to come over!
Saturday April 19 ALL DAY! Blackout Fest bands will be stopping by the studio for interviews and in-studio performances.
Sunday April 20 @ 10:00pm: Mahjonng and Space6boy at Casa Cantina

DJs will be staying up for five days straight in the 2008 DJ marathon! (April 14-April 18). We're shutting off DJ Binary and committing to have live DJs at all hours.

Snat's on Spring Break!

This means that there will be no live DJs bringing you tunes this week, but never fear, ACRN will be back with more rock and another full DJ schedule on March 31! Brains behind the booking: Brian Ostrander continues to deliver

It is an inherent fact that the music scene in Athens is swollen with talent, teeming with life, rife with opportunity and overflowing with a seemingly endless string of shows. Fantastic musicians alone, however, cannot efficiently carry a prospering music scene.

Standing in the shadows of every sweaty bar show, responsible for the elation of performers and concertgoers alike, are people who devote endless amounts of time to wrangling with the swift politics of the entertainment business in order to make these shows happen. In Athens, one of those vitally important people is Ohio University senior Brian Ostrander.

In addition to being the master architect behind the All-Campus Radio Network's booking as the station's promotions director, Ostrander operates his own independent DIY booking agency, Insomniac Booking. Through Insomniac, Ostrander not only promotes shows around Athens, but secures tours and shows for a small, yet incredibly talented roster of bands that includes, among others, The Gunshy and Nostra Nova.

"I started booking shows because the shows that I wanted to see weren't coming to town," Ostrander said. "Bands that I wanted to see weren't coming to town. So I just kind of started doing it myself."

Lobsters on Ice

We are going to be telling you what we thought of that new cd you are thinking about buying. The Executive Notes page let's you know exactly what's going on in ACRN on a weekly basis.
