The 15th annual Nelsonville Music Festival, which will be held on June 6-9, 2019, announced headliner Death Cab for Cutie on Friday, Jan. 18. The alternative rock band is the first of many performers to be announced for the festival.
Death Cab for Cutie will perform on Saturday, June 8, the third night of the festival. The performance will come just a few months after wrapping up their 2019 tour for their ninth and most recent studio album, Thank You for Today, which received positive reviews after its release in August 2018. The band will embark on another run of U.S. tour dates after their performance at the Nelsonville Music Festival.
Named “Best Music Festival in Ohio” by Ohio Magazine and the AV Club, the Nelsonville Music Festival includes four days of live music featuring over 60 bands alongside food, activities, artisan vendors and more. With multiple stages, including one made from a repurposed train car, the festival is known for hosting local, regional and national bands and in past years, it has showcased bands like They Might Be Giants and The Flaming Lips.
Stuart’s Opera House, a historic and nonprofit theater in Nelsonville, Ohio, produces the festival every year. Throughout the rest of the year, Stuart’s also hosts a multitude of live events and runs Arts Education Programs for the surrounding community. Aiming to provide “an affordable, broad based program in the performing arts,” its Arts Education Programs are utilized by an average of 7,000 students from underserved populations in the area every year.
The festival itself also aims to create a positive impact. It is a zero-waste event, rerouting over 92% of its waste created at the 2018 festival from landfills in the area by recycling and composting, and all proceeds raised by the festival support Stuart’s and its programs to provide arts education for Nelsonville and Southeast Ohio.
Stuart’s Opera House will present the 15th annual Nelsonville Music Festival, June 6-9, 2019 at Robbins Crossing on the campus of Hocking College at 3301 Hocking Parkway in Nelsonville, Ohio. Weekend passes for all four days of the festival are on sale now for $140, and the price will go up as the festival weekend gets closer. Weekend passes for Nelsonville residents and teens are only $70, and kids aged 12 and under are free. Tickets and information are available at nelsonvillefest.org.
