Donations to the Kickstarter campaign will pay for promotional materials, merchandise and live production costs for the showcase, which will be held Thursday, April 18 at The Union. As of Monday morning, the campaign has raised over $300.

Brick City Records (BCR) is designed to provide students with opportunities for real-world experience in several sectors of the music industry by working for a full-fledged record label. Formerly a student organization, BCR is now a capstone in the School of Media Arts & Studies and provides recording, promotion, distribution, publicity and concert booking services to musicians.

BCR produces and distributes new releases for a few artists around Ohio each year, and all of that work builds up to the label’s annual showcase concert in April. During the 2018-2019 school year, 30 students working for BCR have helped develop and produce singles, EPs, music videos and more for the four artists featured in this year’s showcase: Mungbean, The Emperor Chaz, JReneé and $eptember.

The goal of the showcase, according to the Kickstarter campaign, is to honor everything that BCR’s musicians and students have created throughout the year. To do that, the label needs to pay for the basics, including promotional materials and production costs.

Contributors to the campaign can choose to donate at one of five tiers–$10, $25, $50, $100 or $250–to receive a gift in return, or they can donate a custom amount. Each tier provides different benefits, including tickets to the showcase, merchandise packages and sponsorship on the BCR website.
