Cincinnati-based rapper $eptember released his debut EP, Day and Night, via Ohio University’s student-run record label, Brick City Records, on Friday as the label’s first official release of 2019.

$eptember showcases a blend of modern rap and classic R&B on Day and Night, drawing major influences from artists such as Frank Ocean, Travis Scott and Stevie Wonder. His debut consists of two tracks: “Ice on My Wrist”, which is accompanied by a music video shot locally in Athens, Ohio, and “Real You”.

Brick City Records will continue to release new music in the next three weeks from the rest of its 2018-2019 roster, which consists of Mungbean, JReneé and The Emperor Chaz. The label also recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund promotional and live production costs for the label’s upcoming annual artist showcase, which will be held at The Union on Thursday, April 18.
With a primary goal of providing practical and entrepreneurial experience in the music industry, Brick City Records is a capstone for Music Production & Recording Industry majors in Ohio University’s School of Media Arts & Studies. The Brick City team works with different regional and local artists every year, and students are deeply involved in the recording, production, promotion, publicity, distribution and booking processes.
$eptember will return to Athens, Ohio, to perform at Brick City Records’ Annual Artist Showcase in April. Visit the Kickstarter campaign to support Brick City Records’ Annual Artist Showcase. Donors can donate a specific amount or reach one of the five donation tiers, which provide rewards like tickets to the showcase, merchandise and sponsorship on the Brick City website.
