The Berries, a Seattle-based country-rock band, released their second album, titled Berryland, on Friday, September 20 on Run For Cover Records. The Berries’ sound is guitar-centric and reminiscent of acts such as Neil Young, but The Berries and frontman Matt Berry bring modern twists of distortion and unique vocal mixing.

Accompanying the new album is a music video for “Feral Eyes,” a single on the record. The video uses distorted, color-heavy, grainy shots to accompany the uptempo, guitar-heavy song. The band also released a music video for their song “Fruit” in July.

The band’s last album, Start All Over Again, was released under the same label and brought the band many fans. Sonically, the two albums have similar instrumentation and a similar sound, but Berryland features more acoustic guitar and a softer tone than Start All Over Again.

Frontman Matt Berry has been a prominent member of the West Coast underground music scene with his past work in Big Bite and Happy Diving prior to the formation of The Berries.

On Berryland, Berry recorded nearly every instrument that is heard on the album, aside from the drums, which were tracked by Trevor Spencer. Nick Merz also gave assistance for tracks “Lowest Form of Life” and “Feral Eyes,” and Veronica Dye assisted with flute on “Makes Me Sick.”

The Berries will tour in support of their new album in September and October, starting Thursday in Eugene, Oregon. Until then, Berryland is available on all streaming platforms.
