The show follows The Cactus Blossoms’ latest album, Easy Way, which was released earlier this year. Easy Way was self-produced, and it was an active attempt to evolve the band’s sound.
“We wanted the freedom to experiment with our own weird ideas,” band member Jack Torrey said about the recording process. “We used to joke that the working title album should be Expensive Demos.”
Chicago pedal steel guitarist Joel Paterson and free jazz saxophonist Micheal Lewis, whose previous collaborations include Bon Iver and Andrew Bird, are featured on the album. Dan Auerbach, an artist with which the band shares many influences, also co-wrote some songs.
Easy Way is the first record to be released on The Cactus Blossoms’ own label, Walkie Talkie Records. Currently, it is the label’s only release.
The band, consisting of brothers Page Burkam and Jack Torrey, is known for their rich harmonies and distinctly creative approach that combines the traditions of country music’s past with a modern perspective. Their debut, You’re Dreaming, earned critical acclaim, landed the band a tour accompanying Kacy Musgraves and was featured in season three of Twin Peaks.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for The Cactus Blossoms’ Nelsonville date, and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. and will be held in Stuart’s Grand Lobby. Advance tickets are $22.50 and can be picked up here or by calling 740-753-1924.
