To promote the single, HAIM took to Instagram to share a photo with a caption describing the personal details that inspired the writing of the track, while also hoping that the song is able to help those going through a similar dark time.
“People think Now I’m in It is a break-up song because I sing: ‘We can’t be friends’ but I’m talking about me and my mind. It was gnarly and I was not OK with myself,” said guitarist and vocalist Danielle Haim in an interview with The Guardian.
HAIM also released a music video alongside the new song. For the video, the girls collaborated with director Paul Thomas Anderson, who has worked with HAIM on many other music videos. The video incorporates bizarre elements like walking through a car wash or downing drinks before waitressing.
The sisters have been active in the music scene since 2012, when they decided to pursue the band full time. Their debut album, Days Are Gone, was released in 2013 and was followed by their next album Something to Tell You in 2017. The group has remained present between projects, collaborating with artists like Charli XCX on her track “Warm,” and covering Lil Nas X’s “Panini” in the Live Lounge, and now, the group is releasing new songs again.
