Manifesting as a 180 gram double LP set, the vinyl will be housed in a genuine old style tip-on gatefold jacket and feature such artists as John Batiste, Mavis Staples, Leon Bridges, Gary Clark Jr. and more. The vinyl is pressed to 1,000 hand-numbered copies and set to be shipped in early 2021.
A Change is Gonna Come is a recording of the closing set of the 2018 Newport Folk Festival.
“[It’s] a celebration of the festival’s storied history with the civil rights movement,” Newport Festival executive producer Jay Sweet said. “It’s a small miracle that the audio we captured manages to convey some of the energy of that afternoon — it doesn’t happen often. I hope that after listening to this record you’re filled with the same feeling that I and everyone else at Fort Adams experienced.”
Newport Festivals Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)3, relies on its festivals to make the money required for its charity work. Due to the rampant spread of the coronavirus, like all big events, the 2020 Newport Folk Festival was cancelled. The charity supports musicians and music programs and is accepting tax-deductible charitable donations here.
