A glossy, relaxed beat courtesy of Pilgrim and FaxOnly underscores Gibbs’ and ScHoolboy Q’s verses.
“I was just trying to pay homage to Do or Die and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony when I made this song,” Gibbs said in a statement, according to Pitchfork. “That’s the era I grew up on. It was long overdue for me and Q to do a record.”
“Gang Signs” marks Gibbs’ second release since receiving a 2021 Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album for his album, Alfredo. It follows his previous release, “4 Thangs”, which features Big Sean and production from Hit-Boy. Last year also saw Gibbs appearing on various tracks, including pieces by Benny the Butcher and Tom Misch.
