Indie rocker Katie Malco has released a cover of Kate Bush’s “Cloudbusting”. The original track was Bush’s second single off her 1985 release, Hounds of Love.
The cover “seems perfectly matched to Katie Malco’s hauntingly captivating voice, offering a stripped back yet encompassing take on this classic,” according to a press release.

Malco created her version of “Cloudbusting” with S.T. Manville, whom she toured with last winter. “Cloudbusting” is her first release since her 2020 album, Failures. Both the new single and Failures were released via 6131 records.
Sharing her release in an Instagram post, Malco described how the track was able to help her understand Kate Bush. “I took away from it this deep feeling of looking forward with optimism and a meeting of the past and the future – melancholy yet hopeful. I loved the synth strings and Kate’s rich, soaring voice. The song holds an even deeper significance for me now, having lived alone for over a year throughout the pandemic,” she wrote.
She also notes in her post that she “covered it accidentally, just singing it to myself one day, and it took on another meaning altogether – imagining a hopeful future and reminiscing about the life I used to have. In the world we live in right now, I think a message of hope is really pertinent. And that’s what I tried to express when I sang the line; ‘the suns coming out’”.
