Fellow Rock Lobsters, we here at ACRN have worked hard to persevere through the obstacles that the global pandemic has thrown at the music world. In November, we successfully put on our annual Battle of the Bands, which was conducted remotely through pre-recorded live sets. We are continuing this virtual format with this year’s Prom. Three amazing local artists will be featured this time with all sets having been recorded at Ohio’s Scripps Amphitheater. Join us for the premiere this Saturday on ACRN’s YouTube Channel.
First on the list is Athens-based psychedelic rock trio Space Gondola. The group blends a late ’60s/early ’70s style with today’s modern influences to form their own unique sound. Check out their Instagram page here.
Asked about the upcoming Prom, the group collectively said, “We as a group were thrilled when ACRN reached out about filming a small set for the Prom event, and we feel extremely lucky to be a part of such a neat thing.”
Following Space Gondola is the Athens-based group No Stars. The set will be performed solo by frontwoman Emma Schultz. Stylistically, Schultz says No Stars fall somewhere in the realm of “bedroom pop rock,” which she appropriately calls “moss rock.” The band recently put out their new single “a good thing.” Listen to it here.
“I was so glad to be able to play a set for the first time in over a year, and I’ve always loved ACRN’s prom events, so I’m glad to be a part of it!” Schultz said.
Performing for Prom and releasing the new single has given her “little glimpses of musical normalcy” for which she is “so grateful.”
Last, but most certainly not least, is local Athens artist Camille Jeanne. Inspired by the writing style of Phoebe Bridgers and the melodies of Alex G, Camille combines these elements and brings her own spirit and energy to her music.
Asked about her thoughts on the event, Camille Jeanne enthusiastically responded, “I am feeling super pumped about the event! I had no idea what to expect when going into this event, but I was super impressed.” She went on to say that the environment ACRN provided made her feel “like a real rockstar.”
Prom will premiere this Saturday, March 20, at 8 p.m. ET on our YouTube channel. It would be a shame to miss the fun, so come join us and get ready to rock because these artists are going to bring some serious heat!
