In a press release, the group described the inspiration for their track.

“’Without U’ is the yearning for that spesh person whilst cruising down the coast in the back of a convertible, grilling some grub on a George Foreman grill and cooling some cold ones. The wind’s in your hair and the sun’s going down on the horizon but what’s the point in having fun without a loved one?”

The accompanying music video for “Without U” plays heavily on this concept, featuring highly aestheticized scenes and toying with the idea of nostalgia.

The EP is dynamic and filled with dreamy, feel-good tracks that capture the attention of listeners. In their own words, Royel Otis said: “’Campus’ is an attempt at creating the songs of nostalgia we have been craving but haven’t managed to find. From coastal cruises to the mellow tunes we want to hear early in the morning, in the back of a cab coming home from a party. Raindrops on the windows and traffic lights bouncing through them. Each of the tracks have their own place in our personal history and were recorded in a comfortable place with mates. Hopefully that translates.”

The duo consists of Otis Pavlovic and Royel Maddell. In July of this year, the group released their debut single “Only One”, which was produced by Julian Sudek and mixed by Dave Fridmann, who worked with artists such as Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips and MGMT. Royel Otis recently signed to imprints House Anxiety / Ourness who between them have introduced the world to artists like King Krule and Courtney Barnett.

“We want to create a sound that holds the same raw, honest, evocative feeling that inspired us to pick up our instruments in the first place.”
