PAPA, also known as Darren Weiss, has a reputation in the music industry for working with established artists such as Lana Del Rey and Sky Ferreira. Now, he is taking time to release new music of his own. His latest single, “Everything Takes An Accident”, dropped today ahead of his first record since 2016’s “Kick at the Dust.”
Recorded with keyboardist Tyler Cash and violinist Daphne Chen, who have both performed alongside artists like Travis Scott and Carrie Underwood, the new single explores the idea of constant change in Weiss’s life.

In a recent interview, Weiss said, “The fact is all things are forever changing, and what a missed opportunity it is to let your certainty get in the way of seeing what’s happening around you. The Bible? State lines? These things were drawn up by men. So give me a pencil.”
With this precursor of what’s to come from PAPA, it’s evident that there’s a sense of urgency and passion within him. Combining early punk influences with classical music, the new song is one that listeners may not have known was possible.
PAPA released their first EP A Good Woman Is Hard To Find in 2011, with their first album, Tender Madness, coming two years later. Since these releases, Weiss has been touring and acting as a session drummer for multiple artists, giving him more to say this time around.
PAPA’s new album Dig Yourself Or Dig A Hole drops October 13 via Hit City U.S.A. He will also be supporting Sorcha Richardson on tour this fall, starting October 15 in Washington, D.C. at Union Stage.
