Indie folk band Babehoven have released their new single, “Chariot”. Babehoven is a duo consisting of Maya Bon and Ryan Albert. The single is released ahead of their upcoming tour with indie rock band Slow Pulp, which began on October 4th in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
“Chariot” sees an expansion upon previous sonic territories explored by Babehoven, including slowcore and shoegaze. Bon’s vocals perfectly compliment the haunting and atmospheric music, which is both droning and intimate. Bon commented on the lyrics in a press-release, saying, “‘Chariot’ is about changing perspectives; it is about sparkling through the chaos. To be whole, fresh, full of water, full of life. To glide through the winding paths as a lesson in malleability.”

The songwriting process for the track featured heavy collaboration with aforementioned bandmate Albert, who wrote the guitar line. Bon wrote the lyrics for the verse’s solo, and the two wrote the lyrics to the chorus together. “We explored songwriting as a team in the dead of upstate winter in 2023, finding solace in the slippery, cherry-red warmth of its sound.”
Alongside the song, a music video has been released. This video was directed, produced, filmed, and edited by Kevin Prince. The video takes place in Hudson Valley and has a theme of extraterrestrial life, even referencing the movie E.T. The video plays on the song’s theme that life is multidimensional, mysterious, and complex.
