Yesterday, Colombian-American singer-songwriter Kali Uchis announced her new album Orquídeas. This being the singer’s first full-length Spanish-language album, Uchis is excited to integrate her Colombian heritage into her work.

In a press release for Pitchfork, Uchis explained the meaning behind the album’s name, saying, “The orchid is the national flower of Colombia, and we have more species of orchid than anywhere on earth. I always felt distinctly intrigued and magnetized by the flower. This album is inspired by the timeless, eerie, mystic, striking, graceful and sensual allure of the orchid. With this vast scope of fresh energy, I wish to re-define the way we look at Latinas in music.”

Recently, the singer dropped “Muñekita”, featuring artists El Alfa and City Girls rapper JT. She also released her third studio album earlier this year in March, titled Red Moon in Venus. Uchis also unveiled the album art for Orquíedas, a mosaic-like photo of the singer surrounded by watercolor pastels and orchids.

The new album drops January 12, 2024, and is available on Target and Rough Trade’s websites.
