Sonically, the track sees Ben and Andrew putting their own spin on the sounds of 90s alt-rock, and the accompanying video drives it home even further. It features numerous references to classic videos from some of the most commercially revered 90s grunge acts, including clear nods to Alice in Chains’ MTV Unplugged set, Stone Temple Pilots’ “Interstate Love Song”, Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy”, Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun”, and the Smashing Pumpkins’ “Today”. It also contains a few easter eggs referencing other musical acts like Siouxse’s “Spellbound” video, Slint’s Spiderland, and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Under the Bridge”.
Loss of Life is set to drop February 23 on Mom+Pop Records, and will contain the previously released single “Mother Nature”. The album will be the duo’s first major release since their 2022 live album 11•11•11 and will follow up 2018’s Little Dark Age as their fifth studio album.
