Toronto-based band Metz have announced their hiatus following a string of tour dates in Europe and the UK. “We’ve collectively decided to close this chapter of Metz,” they write. “The band will be on ‘indefinite hiatus’ while we take time to focus on other endeavors and enjoy more time at home with our families”.
The trio formed in the late 2000s and are known for their blend of noise rock, post-punk and hardcore elements. Their self-titled debut album received critical acclaim and made the shortlist for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize. The band has released five studio albums since then, including their most recent record from April of this year entitled Up On Gravity Hill.

Guitarist and vocalist Alex Edkins, bassist Chris Slorach and drummer Hayden Menzies released a statement regarding their hiatus and expressing their appreciation towards their devoted fans, saying: “The intangible feeling of connection, community, and inclusivity that music creates has always been at the heart of what we do and will inevitably be what we miss the most. We will miss singing, screaming, sweating, and dancing with all of you.”
Metz will tour through the month of November before performing their final show at London’s Village Underground.
