Dynamic British indie rock band Wet Leg released a single and its accompanying music video titled “catch these fists” on April 1 ahead of their upcoming album, moisturizer, out on July 11.
Immediately, “catch these fists” is as thunderous as it is colossal, succeeding at grabbing listener’s attention without much effort. The band hits the ground running with instrumentals that are larger than life and singers-guitarists Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers urging fans to “giddy up.” This is no doubt a call to the force they plan to deliver with this new body of music. “catch these fists” is their newest release since their 2022 self-titled album catapulted them into the ever-growing indie rock sphere.

Catchy hooks are Wet Leg’s forte, with the girls singing, “I know all too well just what you’re like / I don’t want your love, I just wanna fight.” The chorus encompasses the track’s message with just a few simple words, as eclectic guitar riffs, booming drums and the subtle drone of a bass guitar guides it along. With that steady beat as her backdrop, Teasdale warns potential suitors in a gentle whisper, “You should be careful, do you catch my drift? / ‘Cause what I really wanna know is can you catch these fists?” Evidently, pointed snark is also one of the band’s many talents.
Apart from the seamless blend of dance-pop and new-age punk, “catch these fists” does not have much else to offer sonically. The complex guitar riffs steal the show, and end up being the track’s stand-out. Fortunately for Wet Leg, this is only a single, and moisturizer has the opportunity to diverge from the band’s all-too-familiar sound and break into uncharted territory.
