It’s that time of year again, Rock Lobsters — ACRN’s annual Battle of the Bands event is this Saturday, Nov. 15 at The Union. Local Athens bands are ready to take the stage for a night of fun and competition, and we’ve got a killer lineup in store!

New on the scene is Airbag, a four-piece band out of Athens. Airbag is coming off the high of performing their first ever show earlier in October as part of Housing and Residence Life’s Battle of the Greens. Notably, they debuted with a reverent cover of “Fake Plastic Trees” by Radiohead and even some originals. Vocalist and guitarist Quinn Carmicheal, guitarist Max Walker, bassist Davis Lewis and drummer Colter Mathis are eager to build their presence and bring their indie rock sound to The Union.

Next up we have Eye Candy, another Athens-based band making rounds across campus over the last few weeks at the Battle of the Greens. The band is also of the indie-rock variety, and their alternative sound makes for lively performances. Vocalist Kayla Timic, bassist Dominic LaManna, guitarist Khaleb Davis and drummer Eli Miller are here to rock the stage!

White Flag Over Providence is coming out of the Athens and Cleveland area with a handful of members (Ted Bucha and Sean Bradesca) having frequented the scene with previous bands like Ananke. Now, Bucha and Bradesca are combining forces with fellow musicians to form a new and fresh act for Battle of the Bands.

Space Kid is a trio emerging from the Athens and Columbus area, and they describe themselves as “garage rock n’ roll.” Vocalist and guitarist Patrick Gallagher, bassist Riley Morgan-Boucher and drummer Liam Keron are excited to be working with Brick City Records to produce studio content this year and play more shows. In fact, the trio have already released an EP titled Booze and an original song titled “So Down” that’s available Thursday, Nov. 14. Space Kid is no stranger to The Union, and the band is ready to take the stage for another unforgettable night.

Last but not least, we have the endless vat of energy that is Guy Music. Guy Music is a four-piece self-proclaimed “loser rock” band based out of Athens, and they have consistently rocked crowds each time they’ve taken the stage for Battle of the Greens. They’re loud, humorous and undeniably catchy, and are sure to grab your attention for the duration of their set.

ACRN invites you to support your local music scene and engage in some friendly competition as bands fight for your vote and favor. Doors open at 8 p.m. and music starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for 21+ and $11 for those under 21. We hope to see you at the show!
