Hinds began their musical journey as a duo named Deers consisting of Ana Garcia Perrote and Carlotta Corsials in 2011. After receiving some recognition and releasing two tracks, “Bamboo” and “Tricky Gum,” they added two new members: Ade Martin and Amber Grimbergen.
After the release of their debut and sophomore albums, the band saw major success, receiving praise from Pitchfork and Rolling Stone and even performing at festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury.
In recent years, the group has expanded its influence past the realm of music. In 2017, Hinds designed a line of clothing for Urban Outfitters, and half of the proceeds were donated to Attendance Records, an Austin-based non-profit organization that encourages public school students to produce music and magazines. Earlier this year, the band released a limited-edition run of cruelty-free cosmetics in collaboration with 3INA.
Hinds’ sound has been described as “indie-rock-revivalism, making faux-naif surf licks and Mo Tucker drum beats seem new all over again” by Rolling Stone.
