SOPHIE, world building, earth shattering, matter bending pop star, died at roughly 4 a.m. Saturday morning after a sudden accident in Athens, Greece.

“Tragically our beautiful SOPHIE passed away this morning after a terrible accident,” a statement from her family reads according to NPR. “True to her spirituality she had climbed up to watch the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell. She will always be here with us. The family thank everyone for their love and support and request privacy at this devastating time,” 

SOPHIE leaves an impressive, important body of work behind. Shaping the landscape of pop music and beyond, SOPHIE’s time on earth has left us in a better place both musically and creatively.

Having only released one full length project, it is easy to feel as if a wealth of art has been stolen from the future. However, focusing on her creations rather than what could have been honors her legacy and the body of work she left us with before her untimely exit. 

Much like the sporadic melodies and fleeting moments of euphoria created in her art, SOPHIE leaves a wake of inspiration, beauty and love.
