Seminal 2000s post-hardcore and noise rock trio Mclusky have announced their first new material after 19 years of studio silence. The new release is a double A-side single titled unpopular parts of a pig / the digger you deep, which additionally features two B-sides in the form of “fan learning difficulties” and “that was my brain on elves”.

The four-track single marks the band’s first release since the Mcluskyism compilation in 2006 and their first batch of new material since their 2004 album, The Difference Between Me and You Is That I’m Not on Fire. The Welsh band has also mentioned that they are working on a new album, and that the two A-side tracks are intended to appear on the forth-coming project.

On a message shared through the Christian Fitness Bandcamp page, frontman Andy Falkous wrote:

“The first two songs, ‘unpopular parts of a pig’ and ‘the digger you deep’ should make the album we are releasing next year (we’re hopefully finishing up the recording in february). anyway, medium story short, we’re hoping to rearrange our US dates for march of next year and need to raise money for visas hence this here, now, at this price.” He continued: “if it’s a bit steep for you at the moment drop me a message and we’ll figure something out.”

Additionally the band wrote a description on their Bandcamp site further cracking a couple jokes and explaining the reformation, new music, and how they are releasing these songs now to help fund their visas to the States.

The band wrote: “Hey, look at this – it’s a double a side. IS IT? yes, yes it is. BUT THERE’S NO SUCH THING ANYMORE! right. well, there is if i say so. WHY? why anything? OKAY, WHY NOW? better question. well, we recorded it and thought we might release it in order to raise money towards the ridiculously expensive us visas we require if we’re to finish what we started in that stupid, wonderful country.” The band continued saying: “ARE THERE MORE SONGS? Yup. WHEN WILL THEY BE RELEASED? next year. an album is half recorded. we just need to write and record the second half but that’ll be easy.”

After Mclusky’s initial hiatus, Falkous founded and fronted the band Future of the Left in 2005, which would go on to be his main creative outlet for several years. Falkous also started Christian Fitness in 2014, another musical side-project which he’s described as his “non-solo one man band”.

In November of 2022, Mclusky reformed for a 20th anniversary tour of their most critically acclaimed album, Mclusky Do Dallas. However, the second leg of the North American tour was postponed due to Falkous dealing with various chronic hearing issues.
